Getting here

The local railway line stops at Balloch whereas the Main line stops at Dumbarton, Helensburgh, Arrochar and Ardlui.

Glasgow Aiport is 20 minutes away by Car or Taxis

Buses run regularly from Glasgow

Getting around when you get here is not so good however and to enjoy the area fully I would strongly recommend hiring a car. Public transport is limited and in winter the timetables are reduced. There is a bus stand in Balloch from which most local destinations can be reached. Below their is some links for travel information.

Directions

Air
Glasgow Airport is only 20mins by car from the Loch, there are several hire car companies located at the Airport, or a taxi fare would cost you a round £30. With the advent of budget airlines there are now a variety of airlines offering flights from UK cities and European destinations to Glasgow airport, as well as main carriers such as British Airways and British Midland.

From Glasgow Airport: Take the Greenock exit onto the M8, follow the signs for the Erskine Bridge, take the Dunbarton exit onto the A82 and follow the signs for the North. The road will take you through Dumbarton and onto the Alexandria bypass. At the next roundabout you have a choice, most tourists tend to head for Balloch which is really the last place you will be able to get to a supermarket before Oban or Fort William. If you are traveling further then I would recommend stopping off at Duck Bay as this area along with Luss offers some of the best viewpoints.

Rail
Most people will arrive by Rail in the West of Scotland either at Glasgow Central or Queen Street Stations.

From Glasgow Central: Follow the signs for the "Low Level" trains and buy a ticket for Balloch. The platform you want is the "Westbound". You will need to change at "Partick" station or you will end up at Milngave, ( Pronounced millgai ). The journey will take you around 45mins.

From Queen Street: Buy a ticket for Balloch and catch the Balloch train from the Westbound platform. You will not need to change and the journey will take you around 45mins

Balloch Tourist information is directly opposite the Station if you need onward directions.
